Centre for Global Affairs and Public Policy (CGAPP) and Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) jointly organized a round table discussion on “G20 & Global Dynamics: From Indonesia’s Presidency to India’s”. The discussion was held in the background of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia in November, 2022. Indonesia formally hands over the presidency to India on 1 December, 2022. With South Africa assuming the presidency in 2023, this presents a unique instance where three emerging economies are heading a group as important as the G20. This is an opportunity for the Global South to shape the international agenda and make multilateral fora more inclusive and responsive to their concerns.
The convergence in their respective initiatives taken during Indonesia’s presidency of the G20 common issues facing the two nations and bilateral priorities. The conference in hybrid format saw participation from experts on various fields, researchers and government representatives .
The conference presented a unique instance of Track II engagement where an Indian think tank (CGAPP) and an Indonesian think tank (INDEF) collaborated with each other to discuss the potential for closer ties and shared priorities between the two nations.
